It knows the apps that need care: in terminals the words land in the character grid, and in Office it waits for the paste to go through.

Notes, chats, mail, code, the terminal; with no text field, the words wait on the clipboard. Every word is transcribed by Cohere Transcribe, a speech model that runs on your Mac, and the faint live words come from the Mac’s own on-device recognizer. No account, no cloud, and it keeps working with Wi‑Fi off.

    Questions

    Does it need the internet?

Only once, to download the speech model the first time you open it. After that, no. Your words are transcribed on your Mac by Cohere Transcribe, and the faint live words come from the Mac’s own on-device speech recognition. Nothing you say leaves the computer.

    Which Macs can run it?

A Mac with Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. On macOS 26 the caption is made of Liquid Glass; earlier versions show a frosted panel.

    Which languages does it understand?

English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Dutch, Polish, Greek, Arabic, Japanese, Korean and Vietnamese. Chinese also copes with English words mixed in.

    Where do the words go?

Wherever your text cursor is, in any app, including the terminal. If there’s no text field, the words wait on the clipboard for you to paste.

What permissions does it ask for?

Accessibility, for the shortcut and the typing. Microphone, to hear you. Speech Recognition, only for the live words.

    Can I change the shortcut?

Yes: any key with ⌘, ⌥, ⌃ or ⇧, or an F-key on its own. Choose whether a tap starts and stops, or whether you hold it while you talk.

Press ⌥ Space. And start talking.
